Black Hills Fly Fishing Report June 26th 2019

Rapid Creek continues to be higher than normal, however if anglers are willing to travel towards the headwaters above Rochford there is good fishing near Black Fox Campground. Intrepid anglers can find fish on the lower sections of the stream as well. Despite the high flows, fish can be caught in and around Rapid City. Fish the slower edges on the grass line....

The water has come down quite a bit on most of our streams over the past week, and most places – with the exception of Rapid Creek – are back down to near normal levels. The fishing has been excellent nearly everywhere, and even Rapid Creek has some great fishing from Pactola through Rapid City. Warmwater fishing opportunities for bass are getting started as well – it’s going to be a great week to be on the water in the Black Hills!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is blown out. It’s going to be a couple weeks at the least before...

The weather this week looks perfect to get out on the water in the Black Hills!

Rapid Creek above Pactola near Silver City is still high, and very dirty. It will be awhile before this comes...

It looks like the weather over the next week should be much drier, and the creeks should continue to recede to a fishable level pretty quickly. In the meantime, there’s still plenty of options for fishing in the area.

Here’s the bad part – Rapid Creek, Spring Creek, Castle Creek below Deerfield, Box Elder, and pretty much all the other streams in the central hills are high and unfishable for the time being. Rapid Creek...

Don’t forget about lakes!

With the spring storm we just got slammed with the past couple days, a few of our local streams maybe a bit on the high side for a bit. There’s still an ample amount of good stream fishing to be had, but we have a ton of lakes with great fishing that get overlooked by most fly anglers. A lot of the folks in the shop are deterred by the higher flows, which means it’s a fantastic time to try lake fishing, especially if you’re not used to wading/fishing our streams at bigger flows than average. There’s tons of great lakes...
