With the spring storm we just got slammed with the past couple days, a few of our local streams maybe a bit on the high side for a bit. There’s still an ample amount of good stream fishing to be had, but we have a ton of lakes with great fishing that get overlooked by most fly anglers. A lot of the folks in the shop are deterred by the higher flows, which means it’s a fantastic time to try lake fishing, especially if you’re not used to wading/fishing our streams at bigger flows than average. There’s tons of great lakes...

We’ve been in a bit of a cool, damp weather pattern recently, which has helped the stream flows out considerably. Nearly every stream in the Black Hills has great flows right now, and the fish are happy and less spooky than they typically would be. The weather looks like it’s going to turn around and be a bit more seasonal after the next couple days, and the fishing should continue to be great!

Rapid Creek above Pactola came up a bit with the rain the last couple days, but should fish well once it starts to drop back down after today....

We’ve got plenty of water around right now, and the fishing has been solid! We have great flows in all of our streams, and lake fishing has been great also. A few of our local streams are a little on the high side, but should come into great shape in the next week. Pike fishing is heating up as well!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is high and dirty. Give it another week or two and it will clear up a bit.

Rapid Creek below Pactola is high – 160 cfs. It’s mostly going to be a nymphing game with the...

We’ve had some fantastic weather for late October so far, and the fishing has been equally as great! There’s lots of great fly fishing opportunities right now throughout the Black Hills, from Brookies to Pike to Rainbows. Get out and have at it while the weather holds!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is a little off colored still, but fishing well with larger nymphs and streamers. Lil’ Kims, Thin Mints, Mini Dungeons, and various other medium sized streamers will work well on a light Rio Versileader for a sink tip. Good nymphs include North Fork Specials, Brush Hogs, Tungsten Worms, Hare’s...

This could be the best week of weather we see for the remainder of the year, so we suggest getting out and taking advantage of it with some time on the water! Fishing has been excellent throughout the Black Hills, and should continue to be great for the coming week.

Rapid Creek above Pactola is fishing well, primarily with nymphs. Various weight flies for your lead pattern are good, trailed by a smaller tungsten jig in size 14-16. Fish a tungsten fly in size 12-14 for your first fly to get down, and trail a Slim Jim, Brush Hog, Assassin, Sweet...
