Fishing continues to be solid throughout the Black Hills, and the moisture we’ve been getting has been great for the streams and the trout! We’ve been out quite a bit over the past week, both guiding and fishing on our own and have found a lot of willing fish. Nymphing is the name of the game most places, but there’s been some opportunities to fish smaller terrestrial patterns and a few Blue Winged Olive hatches as well.

Rapid Creek above Pactola has been fluctuating every time we get any moisture, and the fishing will most likely be dependent on the...

Fishing throughout the Black Hills continues to be good to great, depending on where you choose to go and the conditions. We’ve had some more seasonable temperatures along with some recent moisture which has improved the fishing quite a bit over the last couple weeks. We’ve had some significantly cooler weather over the past week, and the fishing has improved quite a bit! The cooler nights have helped keep the water temperature down a bit, and it’s made the fishing better throughout the middle of the day. Castle, Rapid, and Spearfish are still the best bets with the drier year we’ve been having, but some of the smaller streams are fishing well also.

Rapid Creek has been fishing well, mostly from Pactola down to Rapid City. Above the dam can be good as well, especially if you get up above Rochford to the Black Fox area....

We’ve had a full spectrum of weather conditions lately, but the fishing continues to be great! We’ve all been guiding a lot over the past few weeks, and we’ve had a lot of people catching a lot of fish. This is the time of year where you can fish a lot of different techniques – we’ve been catching fish on terrestrials, dries, and nymphs, and there’s some streamer opportunities as well. It’s a great time to be fishing in the Black Hills!

Rapid Creek has been fishing well above Pactola, but has been a bit tougher as the water lowers and...
