Rapid Creek – In town continues to fish great, with fish coming to net with a variety of techniques. Nymphing, Dries, small streamers, and skittering crane flies and caddis in the evening have all been producing fish! Nymphing San Juans has been a great way to tempt some of the bigger fish out of the deeper lies as well. Below Pactola has been fishing better than previously, with the increased flows. In Town – Fishing is great, mostly with bigger nymphs such as size 10-16 UV Czechs, Pink Squirrels, Tung Teasers, North Forks, Tungsten San Juans, Dirty Politicians, Hot Spot PT’s and Hare’s Ears. Good Dropper flies are size 14-18 Psychos in black or olive, Tungsten Bruised Purples, Bubble Backs and Rainbow Warriors. Dry Fly fishing will get better with the increased clarity, with good BWO hatches, and Caddis and PMD’s on the way, with a few Yellow Sallies in the next few weeks. Hot Bead Crystal Buggers, White Sculpzilla, Natural Sculpzilla, Mini Leeches
Bloodworms are extremely effective flies. They work well year round on most trout streams I fish. In the winter and spring months they account for a good share of the trout I catch. This simple to tie bloodworm works well in a czech nymphing rig.
