We’ve been in a bit of a cool, damp weather pattern recently, which has helped the stream flows out considerably. Nearly every stream in the Black Hills has great flows right now, and the fish are happy and less spooky than they typically would be. The weather looks like it’s going to turn around and be a bit more seasonal after the next couple days, and the fishing should continue to be great!

Let the line sink almost all the way to the bottom and start retrieving – the buoyant foam head will keep your fly out of the weeds, but near the bottom where the fish are. This is a great topwater pattern fished...

This super simple fly is a breeze to tie, and has all the right flash and wiggle that pike really dig. Give this fly a try in the late spring and fall when the fish are holding on deeper structure – you’ll be happy you did!
