We’re set to get some winter weather this weekend, but the forecast starting early next week looks to be conducive to getting out and doing some fishing. The fishing has been solid on Rapid, Spearfish, and Castle Creeks, as well as local lakes!

Rapid Creek above Pactola has been good, and is better the further upstream you get. There’s some larger fish around closer to the lake, but there’s going to be considerably more fish the further upstream you go. Nymph fishing will pick up the most fish right now – Jig Hare’s Ears, Pheasant Tails, Frenchies, He Men, Pergidons,...

It’s finally feeling like fall in the Black Hills, with cool mornings and pleasant afternoons. The fishing has been fantastic on Rapid, Spearfish, and Castle Creeks, and should continue to be great throughout the month. There’s some good lake fishing opportunities right now also, with pike fishing starting to heat up as well!

Rapid Creek above Pactola has come down considerably, and is flowing right around 50 cfs. With the lower water, the fish will be pushed back into the deeper runs and pools, and they’ll be less common in the skinnier pocket water. Nymph fishing with various generic nymph...

The upper elevations of the Black Hills got quite a bit of snow over the last couple days, but the fishing has still been excellent. The snow may create a bit of higher water over the next couple days, but the fishing should stay unaffected really. Get out and enjoy the fall before winter hits!

Rapid Creek above Pactola near Silver City is fishing well, primarily with nymphs. Bigger flies will work with the slightly stained water – Pat’s Rubber Legs, Jig Squirmy Worms, tungsten worms, and big jig flies in the 12-14 range will work well. Most of the fish...

Don’t let the wintry weather scare you off – the fishing is still excellent, and we didn’t get enough snow to really raise the flows much. A few places will most likely come up a bit over the weekend, but we don’t foresee anything becoming unfishable by any means. Fall is a fantastic time to be out fishing in the Black Hills!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is 107 cfs, which is about what it’s been for the past several weeks. Nymph fishing and streamer fishing are going to be your best bets. Larger nymphs will work well, as the water is...

We’ve got some wintry weather coming over the next 24 hours, but the fishing has been solid and the weather this coming weekend looks excellent. Flows have come up a bit on a few local streams, which will get some fish moving around a bit as well. The fishing this fall has been the best we’ve seen in awhile, and should continue to be fantastic!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is fishing well, and is flowing right around 100 cfs – which is a perfect flow. From Silver City up the trailhead quite a distance has been fishing well, and there’s some...
