We’ve finally had some fall-like weather this week, and the forecast for the weekend and coming week looks to be fantastic as well! Fishing has been excellent throughout the Black Hills, with the lower elevation stuff fishing a bit better than the higher elevation streams.

Rapid Creek is fishing great, both below Pactola and through town. Rapid Creek above Pactola near Silver City is fishing okay, but the water temps are really cold and it will start to freeze more and more with the cooler nights. For in town and the basin, the fish have keyed in on smaller patterns with...

We’ve got some wintry weather coming over the next 24 hours, but the fishing has been solid and the weather this coming weekend looks excellent. Flows have come up a bit on a few local streams, which will get some fish moving around a bit as well. The fishing this fall has been the best we’ve seen in awhile, and should continue to be fantastic!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is fishing well, and is flowing right around 100 cfs – which is a perfect flow. From Silver City up the trailhead quite a distance has been fishing well, and there’s some...

We’ve had one of the wettest years on record and Rapid City – what does that mean for the fishing? As anyone that’s fished around the area earlier this summer knows, we had some incredibly high and dirty water. We’re not in an area that has a ton of snowpack or normally gets a sustained runoff, so it was a bit different for us this year. Many of our streams were flowing at 15-20 times their average flow for quite some time. Successful fishing this spring required thinking out of the box in regards to areas to fish and flies to...
