Dave’s Soft Claw Craw
Dave Gamet of Dakota Angler & Outfitter ties his Jig Craw, a consistent producer for us on everything from brown trout to smallmouth and carp. This crawfish fly is a must have on the missouri river near pierre and on Lake Oahe. We have also fished this in Wisconsin on the Flambeau river, and the bass loved this soft claw crawfish fly. Tie up a few to stuff in your warmwater box, you won’t be disappointed!

Hans’ Rabbit Strip Jig Fly
Jig fly patterns are tremendously effective for bass. This has been the most productive type of fly for me when fishing for smallmouth bass on the Missouri River near Pierre, South Dakota. This rabbit strip version is more durable than my version that utilizes grizzly marabou. Both are very effective. Tie this pattern onto your tippet with a no slip loop knot.

Woolly Bugger- Don’s Bully Bugger
A quick but deadly tie from the vise of resident Carp Master Don Polovich. The Bully Bugger is just about all you need to catch smallmouth and carp over on the Missouri River. Well, that and Don’s Benson Dry Fly, but as they say “that’s another video”.

Carp Flies- Hans’ Carp Nymph
Tied by Hans Stephenson of Dakota Angler & Outfitter. An all purpose nymph for tailing carp. To be fished along the bottom. This fly works extremely well and is fairly quick to tie. Hans’s Carp Nymph works great for smallmouth bass and panfish too.
As far as carp flies go, this pattern is very durable. If tied correctly it should last for several fish. The rubber legs are the least durable part of this fly. I like the movement imparted by sili legs; a more...
Whitlock’s Red Fox Squirrel Nymph
The Red Fox Squirrel Nymph has caught fish nearly everywhere I have been and is a staple in my box. I usually tie these in sizes 12-16. Use a bead if you like. The soft hackle seems to be important to this fly’s success. Some tiers omit the soft hackle but I would take the extra time to add one. The Red Fox Squirrel Nymph is an all purpose nymph that imitates stonefly nymphs, caddis fly larvae, and mayfly nymphs.
