Black Hills Fishing Report July 22nd 2021

Fishing remains good on Rapid Creek, Spearfish Creek, and Castle Creek. We have been fortunate to get some showers from thunderstorms the past few days. That has helped flows on Black Hills streams. Definitely have to keep an eye on water temperatures at lower elevations.

Rapid Creek has fished well above and below Pactola Reservoir. Above Pactola anglers will find success hiking up from Silver City. Dry Dropper rigs are the ticket for most of this stretch. Just below Pactola in the catch and release area, anglers can target fish with larger terrestrial...

With the unseasonably warm temperatures over the past few weeks, the fishing has continued to be excellent. Rapid, Spearfish, Castle, Crow, and Sand Creeks are your best bet, and will continue to be the best option until late winter/early spring.

Rapid Creek above Pactola is off color and icy. You might catch a few fish, but we’d let it be until the water comes up early next spring.

Rapid Creek below Pactola to Johnson Siding is fishing well, and stays more or less open all winter. Nymph fishing is the name of the game pretty much everywhere right now,...

Other than the snow has melted and we’re back to pretty normal temperatures, the fishing has stayed pretty much the same since our last report. There’s good opportunities for terrestrial fishing on most area streams, and the nymph fishing has been solid pretty much everywhere.

Rapid Creek above Pactola has been fishing well, and should be clearing up nicely from the snowmelt last week. It’s still a little green/gray, but the further upstream you get the better fishing you’ll find. Hopper/Dropper rigs will cover pretty much all of the water unless you’re fishing a really deep pool. Fat Franks,...

Fishing has been good to great depending on the day throughout the Black Hills, particularly in the mornings and late evenings when the weather and water temps are cooler. We have one more really hot day on tap this week, but then it looks like we will get back to more seasonable temperatures. Cooler temps will definitely bump the fishing into high gear!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is fishing well from Silver City well past Rochford. The further upstream you get, the better the dry fly and terrestrial fishing will be. In the Rochford area, hoppers have been working really...

Black Hills Fishing Report – 8/15/2020

We’ve had some warmer, drier weather over the past few weeks, but the fishing on Rapid, Spearfish, and Castle Creek is still solid. There have been increasing numbers of hoppers around, which has created some good dry fly opportunities!

Rapid Creek above Pactola has been good, particularly in the higher elevations. Nymph fishing has been good near Silver City with various jigs and midges. Assassins, North Fork Specials, Optic Nerves, and Jig Prince Nymphs have been great bets. If the fish get picky, drop a Zebra midge in size 16-18 behind as a...
