In Town – Fishing in town remains outstanding, especially with our new Tenkara techniques. Nymphing in the shallow runs and riffles is great with smaller nymphs, such as 14-18 North Forks, Psychos, Tung Teasers, and UV Czechs. The Trico hatch in the morning is outstanding, mostly between 6-8am using size 18-22 Chubby Tricos, Trico Spinners, and Black Parachutes. Also, the evening caddis hatch is good, mostly between 7:30 and 9pm.

Black Hills Fishing Report 7/1/13

Rapid Creek

  • In Town – Tricos are going strong 6-9 am. Terrestrials through the day- mainly beetles, ants, crickets, and cicadas. Evening hatches of Pale Evening Duns and Caddis. Nymphing consistent through the day.
  • Below Pactola – A bit tricky below the dam. Big fish on dries are a solid possibility, but this isn’t the place for numbers.  Terrestrials- ants, beetles, and crickets are the best bets.
  • Silver City – Nymphing continues to be the best. Dry dropper fishing is a good bet in the shallower runs and riffles.

In Town – Good fishing in town- as always. Tricos are beginning to hatch in the mornings- 7 am to 9 am. Caddis are hatching in the evening. Terrestrial bite is picking up too. In Town – Fishing is great, mostly with bigger nymphs such as size 10-16 UV Czechs, Pink Squirrels, Tung Teasers, North Forks, Tungsten San Juans, Dirty Politicians, Hot Spot PT’s and Hare’s Ears. Good Dropper flies are size 14-18 Psychos in black or olive, Tungsten Bruised Purples, Bubble Backs and Rainbow Warriors. Dry Fly fishing will get better with the increased clarity, with good BWO hatches, and Caddis and PMD’s on the way, with a few Yellow Sallies in the next few weeks.
