Now that some of the snow has melted and getting to the streams is easier, the fishing has been solid! Rapid Creek, Spearfish Creek, and Spring Creek have been the three best options over the past couple weeks. The weather tomorrow looks to be fantastic, and will be a great December day to get out on the water.

Rapid Creek below Pactola is fishing well, primarily with nymphs. There’s still a few browns spawning, so be mindful of fish that are in water that seems abnormally shallow and fish that are obviously on redds – a circular, lighter colored piece of...

We’ve finally had some fall-like weather this week, and the forecast for the weekend and coming week looks to be fantastic as well! Fishing has been excellent throughout the Black Hills, with the lower elevation stuff fishing a bit better than the higher elevation streams.

Rapid Creek is fishing great, both below Pactola and through town. Rapid Creek above Pactola near Silver City is fishing okay, but the water temps are really cold and it will start to freeze more and more with the cooler nights. For in town and the basin, the fish have keyed in on smaller patterns with...

Cold and snowy today, but the weather from tomorrow through Saturday looks fantastic! The fishing has been solid throughout the Black Hills, particularly in the lower elevations.

Rapid Creek near Silver City is getting pretty cold, but there’s still some nice fish around that are willing to eat. With the colder water temperatures, nymph fishing will be your best bet. Fairly large flies will work well with the slightly off colored water – Pat’s Rubber Legs, Purple Prince Nymphs, Jig Pheasant Tails, Jig Hare’s Ears, Mop Flies, and various other jig patterns in size 12-16 will do the trick. You can...

The upper elevations of the Black Hills got quite a bit of snow over the last couple days, but the fishing has still been excellent. The snow may create a bit of higher water over the next couple days, but the fishing should stay unaffected really. Get out and enjoy the fall before winter hits!

Rapid Creek above Pactola near Silver City is fishing well, primarily with nymphs. Bigger flies will work with the slightly stained water – Pat’s Rubber Legs, Jig Squirmy Worms, tungsten worms, and big jig flies in the 12-14 range will work well. Most of the fish...

Don’t let the wintry weather scare you off – the fishing is still excellent, and we didn’t get enough snow to really raise the flows much. A few places will most likely come up a bit over the weekend, but we don’t foresee anything becoming unfishable by any means. Fall is a fantastic time to be out fishing in the Black Hills!

Rapid Creek above Pactola is 107 cfs, which is about what it’s been for the past several weeks. Nymph fishing and streamer fishing are going to be your best bets. Larger nymphs will work well, as the water is...
